Black History Month Kickoff!!

Had a wonderful time at the introduction to the Black History Month program last week :-) The program opened up with an African performance spoken in their native tongue which, in my opinion, was rhetorically genius in that it pulled viewers into what the program was about. The speakers of the day was Stanley James and his use of irony, humor, and sarcasm kept me on my toes the entire program. Learning how ignorant some people are about culture other than their own was absolutely baffling to me. "Sarah Palin thought that Africa was a country and that Martin Luther King was its leader... he [MLK] led Africans to the U.S in the 1960s because she never saw them on T.V. before then..." (Stanley James) This is just a small example of what was gone over this past wednesday; i for one can not wait until his next speech Feb. 16th!!



Hello everyone!! What Can I say about myself? I have a bubbly personality! I laugh at just about anything! when I'm bored, I sit and make up random songs about anything such as the way mac n cheese boils when you cook it or even hot chocolate and m&ms haha. I absolutely enjoy reading and writing for various reasons and do much of it on my spare time. Since I was younger, reading proved as an escape for me. It was addicting how I could lose myself in a story as if I lived the very events as the characters in the book. As far as writing, it is more as a release for me. For this reason I write poetry as a way to express myself whenever I may feel that I can not do so any other way. I consider myself to be spiritual; I adore God and try to be as Christ-like as I possibly can. it is a working progress however, and I may slip up on occasion and forget to do something like turn the other cheek but I promise those situations are very rare! My favorite color is purple, I'm terrified of ants for no reason at all; as well as planes and needles; and my favorite music to listen to is a switch off between RnB and Gospel :-) Well that is enough about me for the moment, see you guys tomorrow!!
